Section Editor Initial Review Guidelines


This document provides a structured guideline for section editors to complete the ‘Initial Review Form’ for submitted manuscripts to PsyCraft Journal. This form should be used to assess the initial suitability of manuscripts before peer review.

1. Purpose of the Form

The Section Editor Initial Review Form is intended to:
- Ensure the manuscript aligns with the journal’s aims and scope.
- Evaluate the basic quality and compliance with formatting guidelines.
- Provide an early decision: revision, rejection, or forward to peer review.

2. Evaluation Criteria

The following criteria should be reviewed, with boxes marked as:
Yes   Poor   Unacceptable

Please also provide comments for each item, especially if marked as 'Poor' or 'Unacceptable'.

A. Review Domains
Does the manuscript match the general subject area covered by the journal?
B. Journal Aim and Scope
How well does the paper align with the scope and mission of PsyCraft Journal?
C. Journal Format
Has the manuscript followed the journal's formatting and submission guidelines?
D. Originality
Does the manuscript provide novel insights or original research?
E. Scientific Quality – Is the research methodologically sound and scientifically robust?
F. International Relevance – Are the findings meaningful for an international readership?

3. Recommended Editorial Action

At the end of the form, please select one of the following actions:
- Accept: No Revision Needed
- Accept: Minor Revision Needed
- Major Revision Needed: Suggest Revision and Resubmission
- Reject: Provide reasons in the comment boxes
